People often ask for one piece of life-changing advice, as though wisdom were a key hidden beneath the right rock. I don’t think life works that way. Most of us have heard the advice we needed years before we were ready to understand it.
Experience is usually the teacher; advice merely introduces the lesson.
If you insisted that I leave behind one tip, it wouldn’t be believe this or do that.
It would be this:
Learn how to think before you decide what to think.
Question your assumptions. Look at problems from more than one angle. Be willing to change your mind when the evidence demands it. Curiosity will take you farther than certainty ever will.
Every worthwhile decision I’ve ever made began with a question, not an answer.
Perhaps that’s why I don’t believe a single tip can change a life. Advice rarely does. But learning how to think changes every decision that follows.
