CHALLENGE RESPONSE – WWP

Silence breathed whispers from the shadows, cloaked forgotten secrets slow dance. Memories and promises entwined like lovers, in madness in darkness.

  1. Started “In the Heat of the Night” on your recommendation. Great so far. What really strikes me is the author’s ability to pull me in to his characters, especially Sam Wood. The southern cop’s foibles and his thoughts make him so real so fast. I almost wish he did the same thing with Virgil Tubbs, but the mystery of that character adds to the tension, so I get why Ball keeps us a little more in the dark. Also, since this was written in the sixties at a time of great racial tension (what else is new), it was probably difficult for a white author to authentically put himself in the shoes of an ‘outsider’ like Tubbs. Honestly, it would probably still be difficult. Incredible writing. I can see why he won the Edgar award for first mystery novel. Thanks Mangus for the great recommendation.😄
