What brands do you associate with?
PROSE – RANDOM THOUGHTS
When I grew up, we were defined by the clothes we wore. At least, I thought so. Madre Khan was poor, but she did the best she could. There was never a night I went to sleep hungry or ever wondered where I was going to lay my head. A fact I can certainly appreciate now, even if I didn’t know how then. It’s funny how we sometimes realize how fortunate we are until much later. I suppose it always works that way.
During my childhood, we had the “generic” label craze. I can remember being glad it was over, but now I find myself a little nostalgic. We were raised on the ideals like.
“You pay for what you get.”
“You pay for quality.”
I could go on for days, but I’m sure you get the idea because you have heard them a time or two. I remember my stepmother complaining about how I spent my money. I smiled and told her I buy what I need; I rarely worry about the price. She looked at me like I had lost my mind. I imagine to her I had. She grew up during an era when things were tight and scarce.
I wear Dickies apparel for leisure on most days. I hardly entertain anything else. I like the way they feel and their durability. Most of my office accessories are Logitech because they typically make a solid product with a good life. I’m an Apple guy on everything but my phone. I have solid reasons for each of my choices. Well, at least that’s what I tell myself. If I change brands, I will research it if I can.
I wish I wasn’t such a brand whore, but I like what I like. I’m good with that.
I can appreciate that, and Dickies are a great brand that is actually quality, so there is that. as for the rest, I first consider price and then quality and sometimes vice versa. So long as it lasts longer than a year and the first thought on seeing it isn’t ‘well, if it breaks I can just buy another in a month” then I am good.

I pretty much do the same.

It’s an amazing feeling when you can simply say – I buy I need; I rare worry about the price. It is a privilege given to me by my parents discipline and hard work. I never buy more than what I need. Most of my stuff seemed to have last a lifetime. 20 years they are like rags and I can’t seem to part with them LOL …

I just looked at bleach stained hole ridden dickies t-shirt and considered getting rid of it. Instead, I put it on and took a nap. If we were lucky our parents taught us what it takes to make in this life. I’m glad to hear yours did. I hear a lot of complaints about parents lately and I don’t really understand why.

There’s no right way really, my husband and I are still working it out, how to be parents. Our kids are now 25 & 26. We do what we can, they will see, if they ever grow up.

That’s all we can hope for, them figuring it out.

👏💙 those who had to fight to make it, appreciate the value of every penny. Id constantly hear.te phrase “a penny saved is a penny earned.”
But they understood hardship, and protected us from it.
You’re right, now I look at things differently. I’m not a brand whore…not anymore at least.

I believe in you get what you pay for! My closet is a range of that concept and it helps to be classic and not trendy. My car and my electronics I don’t skimp on.
