Sweeping the Workshop Floor

Over the past month, you’ve probably noticed that a few of my regular features have wandered a little off schedule.

That’s on me.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been doing something that isn’t particularly exciting to read about but is absolutely necessary: rebuilding the foundation of Memoirs of Madness. I’ve been repairing incomplete posts, cleaning years of archived content, reorganizing projects, and preparing for a larger migration that will make everything easier to find and maintain in the future.

It has been slow, sometimes tedious work. The kind of work that doesn’t produce a new story every day, but makes sure the stories already here aren’t lost.

I’ve always believed that creative work deserves the same care behind the curtain as it does on the stage. Sometimes that means choosing maintenance over momentum. There is no reason to carry broken links, unfinished drafts, or outdated structures into the future simply because they’re familiar. If I’m going to build something meant to last, then the foundation deserves as much attention as the words themselves.

The good news is that much of that work is finally coming together. August is already taking shape, several series are back on track, and I’m looking forward to spending less time repairing the past and more time creating what’s next.

Thank you for sticking around while I swept the workshop floor.

Now, let’s get back to telling stories.

  1. Good for you! I have several posts that have been sitting for years. I keep thinking I’ll finally get around to finishing them. One of them is 10 years old! It’s based on real experiences, but the memories are fading too quickly to remember how the story should feel. 😐 Maybe it’s time to let them go?

  2. Wonderful, delightful. I understand completely. I have a filing cabinet full but at the moment, I can’t erase them as most are still very dear to my heart. Love he swept workshop floor 🙂
