Dancing in the Dark

POETRY – RELEASING

My camel smolders between my index and forefingers
I drink the last drop of Guinness. I close my eyes as its taste lingers.
I order another, drinking it down, trying to drown my despair.
However, it takes me nowhere.
I stand up, trying my best to be cool.
I swagger across the floor, looking like a complete fool.
I cross the room, grabbing anything necessary
Stopping when I needed to be stationary
Finally, I reach the glow of the box.
I hold it while my eyes slowly focus.
I look for anything that rocks.
I dig in my pocket and fish for some quarters
while I try desperately to complete my order.
I drop the coin in their slot,
Clickity,
Clickity,
Clack
metallic splash
the coins reach their new home.
I weave from side to side, waiting for the sounds of madness
The guitar plays a power chord through my soul.
My arms outstretched, and my fingers pop.
My head and hips sway to the rhythm of its melody.
Two steps forward, three steps back.
My eyes squeezed tight as the sound soothed me just right.
I danced by myself in the dark and didn’t give it another thought.
