At ten, he debuted on the big screen, portraying young W.C. Handy in a biographical film about the blues musician. His early exposure to music set the foundation for his future career.

Preston’s first significant collaboration came in 1962 when he joined Little Richard’s band as an organist. During this stint, he met The Beatles in Hamburg, Germany, beginning a long-standing relationship.
