TUNAGE – BSN
Tonight on BSN, I feel like jamming with no particular rhyme, theme, or all of that. It’s just me sharing some of my favorites with you. I’ve been listening to the blues all day and loving it. It was like I needed to get something out of my system or needed an injection—I can’t decide which one.
Last week on Juke Joint I featured some of the great ladies of jazz. So, it’s only fair to include on BSN some of the big voices of the Blues. When I think of big voices regardless of the genre, Etta James is always a part of the discussion for me. Etta has always been a favorite of mine before I knew who I was listening to. I’ve mentioned my Madre turned me on Diana Ross and Billie Holiday, but Etta I picked all my own.
You always hear about the legendary B.B. King and of course, Albert King and their chops with the axe. Although, many know of the talents of Freddie King, he’s seldom a part of the discussion in regard to prominent guitarists. Perhaps, on a later BSN, I will feature the work of all three King’s. However, tonight, we going to listen to Freddie tell us why his baby needs to reconsider.
This next track tells a story we all are familiar with whether we want to admit it or not. I chose Buddy Guy’s rendition of a tale so many told. His rendition of a tale we all have lived a version. The vocals and guitar blend together, invoking the memory of a pain you never quite get over, and if you have, you’ll never forget it.
Speaking of big voices, Nina Simone brings another dimension to the Blues just as does with Jazz. I know what you’re thinking. I’m going to post Nina Simone every week. Now, I could do just that. My Nina collection in my vault is DEEEPP! However, I will act right. Well, for at least a month or so.
So, I suppose I will close things down this evening with a little SRV & son.
“You know what I believe in? I believe in the sound of Nina Simone’s voice. I feel like that is the closest I’ll ever come to believing in God. It’ll make you a convert.” ( – Love The Coopers, 2015 Film) One of my favorite lines to have ever come from a Christmas film. It seemed apropos to share here. 💕

I have found the movie, but haven’t had time to watch it. I love Christmas movies. Especially, if they are a bit goofy. Like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

I do too. I own over 150 Christmas films. I even have a special collection of Christmas horror films. I try to add a new film every year and I love indies. If you ever need a recommendation — especially one with a weird or specific slant, I’m your gal. (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” is SO underrated. Some of the greatest dialogue ever.) 😂
